Investigating the 'death metal' murders
Posted on Friday, November 25 @ 13:24:13 EST by SweenyTod

Occult news and Information

In January 1998 Fabio Tollis and Chiara Marino, both just 16, disappeared.

They had been drinking at a pub called the Midnight - the centre of the heavy metal scene in Milan - and they never came home.

Michele Tollis, Fabio's father, began to attend metal concerts and festivals across Europe, handing out leaflets and quizzing Fabio's friends.

Fabio and his friends were into the most extreme forms of heavy metal music - death metal and black metal, music obsessed with images of murder and satanism - and the role of this music is central to the story.

It emerged that Chiara, the girl who disappeared with Fabio, had a collection of satanic literature and paraphernalia in her bedroom.

During this search, Michele Tollis became convinced that satanism had something to do with his son's disappearance.

"No one can contradict me when I say that heavy metal and satanism are closely linked. They're inseparable," he says.

Over the next six years he built up a dossier of intelligence about them; who knew whom and which bands they played in.

Then in January 2004 Michele was watching the local news. An item came on reporting a brutal murder in their nearby town of Somma Lombardo.

A young man called Andrea Volpe had been arrested and admitted killing his ex-girlfriend.

Alarm bells went off in Michele's head because Volpe had played in a death metal band with his son. He called the police and arranged a meeting.

Using Michele's dossier of information, the police interrogated Volpe about the disappearances. Finally Volpe confessed and led the police to where Fabio and Chiara were buried.

Michele's hunt was over, but the revelations were just beginning.

One of Fabio's school friends, Mario Maccione, confessed to having beaten Fabio to death with a hammer.

He also revealed that the boys had been part of a wider satanic sect called the Beasts of Satan.

It was revealed Andrea Bontade, a drummer, had been terrorised into committing suicide.

Soon, other mysterious deaths were being linked to the Beasts.

The case has profoundly shocked Italy, still a very Catholic country.

One priest, Don Aldo Buonaito, has set up a helpline for parents and children worried about satanism.

He has also called for death metal music to be banned.

"If music makes itself an instrument of nefarious deeds and death it should be stopped," he says.

But this is just the latest case where extreme metal music has been blamed for vicious acts by teenagers.

Everyone remembers the secret messages that were supposed to be contained in Ozzy Osbourne's lyrics and the controversy over his track Suicide Solution.

In 1996, the parents of Elyse Marie Pahler took satanic death metal band Slayer to court in the US after their 15-year-old daughter was murdered in what was alleged to be a satanic ritual imitating the band's lyrics.

The case was dismissed by a Californian judge in 2001.

In Norway fans of the even more extreme black metal, burned down more than 40 churches in the 1990s.

One of the favourite bands of the Beasts of Satan sect in Italy was Deicide - an American death metal band led by Glen Benton, a self-professed satanist who has an upside down cross branded into his forehead.

Deicide sing about the occult, their most popular anthem being Kill the Christians.

Other death metal bands appear to glorify murder, torture, rape and necrophilia.

Benton is no stranger to controversy - several murders have been linked to his fans - but denies that any singer can be responsible for the actions of their fans.

"I say don't blame people like me and [Marilyn] Manson, because we never said: 'Hey, we're going to be role models for all your kids.' That ain't what this is about. It's about entertainment."

Indeed there is little evidence that ordinary kids can be turned into monsters by music.

But academics who have studied adolescents and music have expressed concerns about the possible effects on children who already have psychological problems.

Professor Don Roberts of Stanford University thinks that perhaps the children who are already violent or depressed are the people who should be kept away from death metal.

"What the music may well be doing is simply reinforcing beliefs that they might have started with in the first place," he says.

The idea of "satanism" that is presented in this article is false. Satanism as presented in Metal lyrics and ideas is a fake Gothic Satanism that nexer existed except in fairytales and maybe when a few people in the Middle Ages acted like they were part of the "cult". Metal bands and followers, if any of them worship Satan, do so only to irritate Christians. Few to none of them actually believe in Satan. Satan is merely an "anti-establishment" personification to them. Real Satanism doesn't even believe in the Christian Satan. Read about Satanism from a valid source and then read this article.

All you did was retell the story mate! You cannot blame music on something like this. Metal music is a great escape for people and anyone who turns this into violence is going against the majority of metal fans. Death fascinates people who listen to this music but only very mentally ill people would commit these kinds of crimes. A romantic idea of satanism leads people to make pretend cults, sects etc but murder and such happened before metal music existed and would continue to happen without it! Many mass murderers listened to classical music but noone would blame atrocities on that!

you said that the death metal is satanist.......it's false. i'm french and your stupidity really scare me. slayer is not a death metal band,it's trash metal. the metal is no conformist and don't accept the christian vision of the world, and you don't appreciate that. the metal is an alternative for all people who don't want to follow your religion. in my country the liberty of choice really exist , and the athéism is not a problem or a crime. but in "usa" the "country of liberty", i see you cannot live normally if you are not a religious man. I'm very sad for all americans who don't have the choice of lead their life has they want.  Keep the spirit of true metal alive my friends!!!!!!

i am a metalhead and i am a satanist, and i urge people to read the satanic bible, and understand what you are afraid of, satanism is NOT about killing people and burning down church's, its about being yourself and not giving restrictions on your life.i have friends that are catholic, cristian, jew, mormon and we get along fine, the word SATANISM is not ment to mean devil worship, it is about the idea of being an opposit religion, with the heavy metal side of things, DO NOT BLAME THE ARTISTS!!!everyone has there own ideas and thats just their POV, i love metal music because i can relate to some of it, dance to some of it, and enjoy the harshness of the music, it is raw human emotion that shows in most bands that believe in their lyrics and music.i personly have made a great carreer out of promoting metal events, i love it!and i strongly applaud the other people who have replyed expressing their beliefs

Metal isnt to blame.  There are Christian metal bands as well.  It is simply and uterly the people. Music is just the vessel.

people that think that music has something to do with acts of crime or whatnot are idiots, and if people actually do things do to the music for some reason, theyre completely fucked up too. i love death metal, along with other things such as the beatles, nirvana, etc..but it dont go killing people because of it, and im not satanic, i just dont believe in religion. i love it because musicially, its challenging. me being a musician myself, it gives me new areas to explore on guitar that are far more technical than any beatles song.

you can't blame the music. people that do those things are sick or something. I know lots of people who listen to metal music and they are perfectly normal. if you read the cover of the metal band "Soulfly" you can see that there's " Dedicado a Deus" written on it wich means dedicaded to God... so not every metal band has something to do with satan

There are death metal bands that are christain based, not like i listen to any of them so i am not sure what they are really talking about in the lyrics. But i know of some, most black metal is satanic or occult related somehow, but not all the time and as for slayer like was posted before thrash metal, slayer is more like a evil (and not like evil i am the devil like the evils created by man) promoteing band not worshiping the devil, there lyrics most of the time deal with real life events like most metal just crap you feel sometimes going through the day. Anyways i play death/black metal and gore grind and it is like a contest of who pretty much can come up with the fastest riffs blast beats and whatnot, followed with the most disturbing lyrics you can write, it is not like any of the bands i am involved in run around butchering rapeing and killing everything in our path, oh ya no churchs burned down by my hands eather, no wonder why people get so pissed at religion you guys post untrue non viable crap slayer a death metal band? wtf

you guys are a bunch of religous pussies. heavy metal has nothing to do with satan. some more extreme form such as black and death metal, maybe. but assuming that all metalheads are satanists is ignorance. if any of you are catholic, fuck off. i dont want to hear shit about the me going against your church and your beliefs. i am a metalhead and i refuse to go by sterotypes posted by the fucking church. i dont follow anyone especially satan.
