Religious News Online FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Category: Main -> Submission Guidelines
| Answer | | · Where do I find a story? I use a few sites to find stories. Some of them are, in no particular order:
Yahoo
Google
Christian Headlines
A growing number of news sites now require registration before you can read a story. As a general rule, I do not post stories that link to sites that require registration before access is allowed. [ Back to Top ]
| | · Copyright Issues When a site publishes a story, they hold full copyright on it. This means we are not allowed to just copy it in full and post it somewhere else.
Fair use, however, means we can use part of what they write, but not all of it. Some sites have an unrestricted policy regarding copying of stories, which means we can publish all the story. The Adventist News Network is one example of this.
The bottom line is we have to respect the copyright restrictions of other sites, and work within that. [ Back to Top ]
| | · Formatting of the submission The submission form has several sections to fill in. You should be using them all when submitting a story. The following list shows what should go in each section.
Title This is the title of the story, like "
Priest proposes adopt-a-skeleton". It should describe the story, in vague terms if necessary.
Topic From here, choose which topic best describes the story. If it is relating to Christianity, choose the Christianity topic. Sometimes, though, it's hard to work out where a story belongs. If you can't work out where it goes, choose General Religious News, and I'll work something out.
Story Text This is what you see on the main page. This should include enough of the story to give an idea of what it's about, but not the full story itself. If you're coping a story from another website, then it'll probably be the first couple of paragraphs.
Extended Text This is where the rest of the story goes, that wasn't included in the Story Text section. At the bottom of the story, you should also include a link to where the story came from, so readers know where to go to read the full story (see the Copyright Issues section).
That's it! Preview the story and see how it looks. You can make as many changes before submitting it to be published as you like. If you're including any html links, be sure to check that they all work. [ Back to Top ]
| | · How long can a story be? I don't have any restrictions on how long a story can be, provided the system accepts it. I've had stories over 25k in size and they worked fine. If your submission is truely huge, you might be better splitting it into various parts. [ Back to Top ]
